Description
SS-31 | Elamipretide — Mitochondria-Targeted Peptide — Research Grade
SS-31 (Elamipretide; D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) is a cell-permeable, mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that selectively accumulates in the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM) where it binds cardiolipin, a unique phospholipid essential for cristae architecture and electron transport chain function.
Mechanism of Action
- Cardiolipin binding — stabilises cardiolipin in the IMM, maintaining cytochrome c attachment and preventing its pro-apoptotic release
- ETC optimisation — improves electron flow through Complexes I, III, and IV, reducing electron leak and ROS production
- ATP synthesis — restores ATP/ADP ratios in models of mitochondrial dysfunction and ischaemia
- Mitochondrial morphology — promotes fusion and reduces fission in cardiomyocyte and neuron models
Research Areas
SS-31 is studied in heart failure (Phase II/III clinical trials as Elamipretide), ischaemia-reperfusion injury, Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, renal disease, and age-related mitochondrial decline.
For Research Use Only. Rainbow Peptide supplies SS-31 exclusively for in vitro and laboratory research purposes. Not for human or veterinary use.

Dr. E. Reynolds –
SS-31 (Elamipretide) for our mitochondrial membrane potential and cardioprotection studies. Purity confirmed >99% by our LC-MS. ROS suppression in our cardiomyocyte model was exactly as published. Outstanding quality.
A. Bergström –
SS-31 is critical for our mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant research. Rainbow Peptide’s lot was the highest purity we’ve sourced — >99% confirmed. COA included endotoxin testing critical for our in vitro protocol.
F. Mensah –
SS-31 performed well in our ischemia-reperfusion injury model. Purity >98%. The tetrapeptide dissolved easily and behaved as expected. COA was detailed. Shipping was fast and cold-chain intact.
