Epithalon | Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly Tetrapeptide — Research Grade
Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed from Epithalamin, a natural polypeptide extract from the bovine pineal gland. The majority of research originates from the laboratory of Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.
Mechanism of Action
- Telomerase activation — stimulates telomerase (hTERT) expression in somatic cells, extending replicative capacity beyond the Hayflick limit in cell culture models
- Pineal/melatonin restoration — studied for restoration of melatonin synthesis in aged subjects, with downstream effects on circadian regulation
- Oncostatic activity — shown to reduce tumour incidence in ageing rodent cohorts in long-term studies
- Antioxidant — reduces lipid peroxidation and free radical activity in aged tissue models
Research Areas
Epithalon has been studied in telomere biology, circadian rhythm restoration, immune senescence, and cancer prevention models. Longitudinal observational studies in human subjects spanning 15-25 years have been published by the Khavinson group.
