Description
5-Amino-1MQ | NNMT Inhibitor — Research Grade
5-Amino-1MQ (5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a cell-permeable small molecule and potent inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in white adipose tissue. Preclinical studies have reported significant fat mass reduction, increased energy expenditure, and enhanced NAD+ metabolite levels.
Mechanism of Action
- NNMT inhibition — blocks methylation of nicotinamide, redirecting methyl groups and increasing SAM (S-adenosylmethionine) availability
- NAD+ precursor pool expansion — reduces consumption of NAD+ precursors, boosting cellular NAD+ levels
- Adipocyte differentiation suppression — inhibits pre-adipocyte differentiation into mature fat cells in vitro
- No appetite suppression — preclinical data suggests fat reduction without orexigenic pathway involvement
Research Areas
5-Amino-1MQ is studied in obesity, adipose metabolism, NAD+ biology, and longevity research. It represents a mechanistically distinct approach to fat metabolism compared to GLP-1 or GH-based compounds.
